Common Painkiller Can Cause Acute Liver Failure

Panadol is the brand name of acetaminophen in the UK (Para-acetylaminophenol is the chemical name for acetaminophen) and APAP is an abbreviation for para-acetylaminophenol.

The drug is also used in the UK painkiller Paracetamol. Thousands of patients are treated for acetaminophen toxicity every year. Just remember to read the content labels of over-the-counter medications!

US researchers at North-western University Medical School interviewed participants in several focus groups in Chicago and Atlanta and found that nearly 60 per cent of the subjects admitted that they didn't read OTC drug labels to check ingredients!
